WHY DO THIS?

Big goals require longer journeys. Breaking them down into the small steps and actions you’ll need to take can help you get started moving and keep you on track to getting where you want to go.

RELEVANCE TO THE WHOLE FAMILY APPROACH?

Making changes that impact generational patterns can take a while to be fully realized. These sorts of changes require many milestones, actions, and steps along the way. Mapping out those details can give families clarity on how their progress over time contributes to realizing a big goal.

Instructions

  1. Write down one of the “stepping stones” that you will need to pass through in order to reach one of your big goals. (You identified some of these in the Plan a path forward activity.) Note your answer on the worksheet provided or on a blank sheet of paper.
  2.
Next, let’s let’s break down that milestone into smaller pieces. Most goals require three things:
Research: Find out more information so know what your options are and can make a choice.

Evaluation: Weigh the options against a set of considerations to see what works best for you.

Commit: Pick one of the options and commit to it.
  3. Write down some specific things you need to do in each category in order to reach the milestone that connects you to a big goal.
